Five top tips to get your exercise program kick started:

1. Do a Fun Run for charity
Give yourself something to aim for and some motivation to succeed. Raise money for a good cause at the same time as getting good exercise to get you in shape. Our sports events and running page is a good place to start.

2. Join a Gym or Health Club
Don't just join, actually go! You can find a local gym and even discounted gym memberships for sale on our gyms page here; or find a personal trainer to put you through your exercise program on this page.

3. Cycle or jog to work
Get off the bus and on your bike. Pick up some trainers and an ipod. If you're in London, you can get some good advice on safe routes from Transport for London here or for the rest of the country from Sustrans here.

4. Buy an exercise video or exercise bike
Get fit in the comfort of your own home in front of the telly. Check out the most popular workout dvds or buy equipment like exercise bikes.

5. Find an exercise buddy
You can't do it on your own, you need moral support (and peer pressure). If you don't have a willing friend already, visit Gumtree's sports teams / partners section in your local city to find a new one.
